Introducing Our Pastor and First Lady
Reverend Jim Wesley McCoy was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. His father being a military service member, moved the family to Lake Charles, Louisiana, while Jim was still an infant. The first nine years of Jim’s life were in Lake Charles.
The family relocated to Oakland, California where Jim finished his elementary education and graduated from Oakland Technical High School. Soon after graduation, Jim began a career with the United States Marine Corps. His military career was shortened after he was wounded in the line of duty during the Vietnam War which resulted in him receiving the Purple Heart.
After returning home, Jim had a goal to have a positive impact on lives for Jesus and he united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he had been a member for over 20 years.
During Reverend McCoy’s service at Bethel Baptist Church, his duties consisted of Deacon Assistant to the Pastor, Sunday School, Mission Department and Bible Study Teacher, officiating funerals, performing weddings as well as other pastoral duties in a professional and accomplished manner.
Reverend McCoy pastored the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Dublin, California from 1985 to 1987.
Reverend McCoy has been married to Juanita McCoy for over thirty years and is the father of six adult children and three grandchildren.
Reverend McCoy served as Interim Pastor of the Union Baptist Church in Vallejo, California for six months and was elected Pastor of Union Baptist on April 3, 1998.
